Two 1st-Round Picks
First-team All-America and ACC Player of the Year Justin Jackson was the 15th player selected in the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft Thursday evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The Portland Trailblazers selected Jackson before later trading his rights to the Sacramento Kings. Later in the first round, freshman forward Tony Bradley went 28th overall to the Los Angeles Lakers, who later traded Bradley to the Utah Jazz. Jackson and Bradley are the 48th and 49th Tar Heels selected in NBA Draft first-round history. UNC has the most first-round selections in NBA Draft history. They are the 17th and 18th Tar Heels to play for head coach Roy Williams drafted in the first round. Williams has coached 29 first-round picks – 11 at Kansas and 18 at North Carolina. Overall, Jackson and Bradley are the 111th and 112th Tar Heels selected in the NBA Draft, third-most among any school in the nation. Jackson averaged 18.3 points and set a single-season school record with 105 three-pointers in leading the Tar Heels to an ACC regular-season title and the sixth NCAA championship in UNC history. Jackson is the first Tar Heel ever drafted by Portland. Former Tar Heel and Bob Cousy Award winner Ty Lawson also plays for the Sacramento Kings. Jackson, Lawson (2009) and Lennie Rosenbluth (2017) are the only three Tar Heels to win ACC Player-of-the-Year honors and win an NCAA championship in the same season.
