Tar Heels 13th Heading To Final Round
Senior William Register shot a 1-under-par 69 to lead the University of North Carolina in the second round of the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational Saturday at the north course at Olympia Fields Country Club south of Chicago.
Register birdied his first and fifth holes (UNC began on the 10th tee) and had just one bogey in his round. He is tied for 16th with 18 holes to play on Sunday.
Carolina shot 12-over 292 in the second round. Ben Griffin and Preyer Fountain both shot 74s and Joshua Martin and Jose Montaño each shot 75s.
Alabama has a three-shot lead over Baylor and is six shots clear of Texas A&M. The Tide has shot even-par in each of the first two rounds. Top-ranked Oklahoma State and host Illinois are tied for fourth at 7 over. Carolina is 13th at 22 over.
Davis Riley of Alabama leads the individual competition at 7-under 133 after shooting 66-67. He has a one-stroke advantage over Illinois' Nick Hardy and UNLV's Shintaro Ben.
