Day Two: Myrtle Beach Retreat
September 30, 2017 | Women's Basketball
Hello!
My name is Leah Church and I am a freshman for UNC Women's Basketball. I am super excited to be on my first team retreat. I grew up a Tar Heel fan and always hoped I would get the chance to have these experiences.
It's been a great trip so far. The morning started off with a beautiful sunrise, breakfast cooked by Group A (Jamie, Jocelyn, Stephanie, Taylor, Liz, Jaelynn and myself). Multiple cooking stations were in use as we prepared shrimp and grits, french toast with berries and whipped cream topping, breakfast blankets (croissants with bacon and eggs), fried apples, fruit, sides of bacon and multiple juice options. It was a successful meal, if I do say so myself and teamwork was put to much use! :) The morning resembled the aspects of a basketball game...we had a game plan, had to work together and each do our role, we had to communicate, and in the end we got the win! :)
After breakfast, we headed to WonderWorks for some fun! To start off, we had a scavenger hunt in which we were divided into three teams. (After all, everything is a competition, right?) :) The rest of the afternoon consisted of a rope course, laser tag, zip lining and much more. Laughs were shared, competitive spirits kindled, and fears conquered (heights). It was a very enjoyable time! We're headed back to the house for some free time, before supper at Captain John's Seafood, tonight. So far, it's been a wonderful time of team bonding and building relationships!
Go Heels!

My name is Taylor Koenen and I am a sophomore this year! This is my first Myrtle Beach team bonding trip and so far it has been a blast!
After a fun afternoon filled with zip lining and laser tag at Wonderworks most of us came back to "Blue Heaven" and took naps. After we caught our second wind, some of us walked the beach while others did their homework, and a few people even sat on the relaxing porch and read a book.
I really enjoyed walking the beach and taking in the sites and sounds of the ocean with my teammates. It was relaxing and much needed because I feel as though I am always on the go during the week as a student-athlete.
For dinner, we went to Captain John's Seafood in Calabash. It is a well known restaurant at the beach and all the seafood is freshly cooked.
We were lucky enough to have the mayor of North Myrtle Beach, Marilyn Hatley join us for dinner. She shared many encouraging words with us and motivated us to be assertive, aggressive women. She said that there is nothing in the world that we can't achieve, as long as we put our minds to it.
I am looking forward to spending the rest of the night with my teammates and seeing what else the coaches have in store for us! :)
