Tar Heels To Visit Michigan In ACC/Big Ten Challenge

GAME EIGHT NOTEBOOK
• Carolina is playing at Michigan for the first time. Michigan is one of four current Big Ten schools at which UNC has not previously played (Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska and Penn State; the Tar Heels also have not played against Wisconsin in Madison, but did play in the NCAA Tournament in Madison).
• The November 26 Associated Press poll is the 900th in which the Tar Heels are ranked. UNC is the first school to be ranked in 900 AP polls.
• Carolina is averaging 96.6 points per game, exactly twice as much as Michigan's defense is allowing its opponents to score (48.3).
• Carolina is No. 3 in the nation in offensive efficiency; the Wolverines are No. 1 in defensive efficiency. The Tar Heels are 32nd in the country in effective field goal percentage (56.2 percent); the Michigan defense is No. 2 (36.9 percent).
• The Tar Heels have scored 676 points and are averaging 96.6 points in their first seven games. That's the most points in the first seven games since 1992-93, when Carolina scored 680 points (97.1 per game) en route to winning the NCAA title.
• Coby White was named the ACC Freshman of the Week for his performances against Saint Francis (16 points), Texas (33 points, seven 3FGs) and UCLA (19 points, eight assists).
• Carolina is 10-9 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, including 10-5 under Roy Williams.
• Carolina is playing in the state of Michigan for the first time since 12/14/2013, when it beat No. 1 ranked Michigan State in East Lansing.
• Carolina's all-time roster includes two players from the state of Michigan – Tom LaGarde, a member of the 1976 gold-medal winning Olympic team from Detroit, and Tom Zaliagiris, a forward from 1974-78 from Livonia.

• The Tar Heels and Wolverines are playing for the seventh time and the first time in Ann Arbor.
• Carolina is 4-2 against Michigan, including a win last season in Chapel Hill, a 3-1 record in the NCAA Tournament and 0-1 in the Rainbow Classic.
• Carolina defeated Michigan in the 1987 second round in Charlotte, the 1988 Sweet 16 in Seattle and the 1993 title game in New Orleans. Michigan beat UNC in the 1989 Sweet 16 in Lexington, Ky., and the 1992 Rainbow Classic in Honolulu.
• Roy Williams is 1-1 against Michigan – 1-0 at Carolina and 0-1 while at Kansas. The Wolverines beat the Jayhawks in the finals of the 1992 Rainbow Classic, one day after Michigan beat the Tar Heels. All three teams advanced to the Final Four in New Orleans later that season.Â

• It was the third most points by any UNC freshman behind 40 by Barnes and Tyler Hansbrough (vs. Georgia Tech in 2006).
• White's 33 are the most by a Tar Heel since Luke Maye had 33 at NC State on 2/10/2018. White's previous scoring high in a game was 16 in the previous contest vs. Saint Francis.
• White made seven three-pointers, which ties the seventh most in a game by a Tar Heel. White's seven three-pointers are the second most by a UNC freshman (Raymond Felton made eight, which equals the school record, against NC State on 1/26/2003).
