Carolina To Face Rice, Auburn In Myrtle Beach

North Carolina takes its annual trip to Myrtle Beach for the 25th-straight year for a pair of games at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The Tar Heels face Rice on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. and Auburn on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Rice: Carolina leads 1-0. LaQuanda Barksdale scored seven of her 27 points during a decisive 15-0 first-half run Monday night as the Tar Heels overpowered upstart Rice 83-50 in a second-round NCAA West Regional game on March 20, 2000 in Santa Barbara, Calif.Â
Auburn: Carolina trails 3-0. The Tigers have won all three previous matchups; 90-76 at Auburn on Dec. 18, 1982, 90-67 at the Sunshine Classic in Lake Mary, Fla., on Nov. 30, 1985 and most recently 69-55 at the Big Four Classic in Greensboro, N.C., on Dec. 30, 1995.Â

Janelle Bailey notched a double-double and North Carolina head coach Sylvia Hatchell become the Atlantic Coast Conference's all-time wins leader in women's basketball with an 83-62 victory over UNCG last Friday night from Carmichael Arena. Hatchell, in her 33rd season at Carolina, passes former Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan with her 740th victory. Hatchell is 740-314 at UNC.
Bailey's third-straight double-double (sixth of the season) set the tone for Carolina's dominance in the paint all game long. The Heels enjoyed a 42-20 edge in paint points and 42-33 in total rebounding. Stephanie Watts added 19 points for North Carolina (7-4) to go along with Bailey's 23 points and 10 rebounds. Taylor Koenen hauled in 10 boards to go with her six points.

• Carolina is 29-6 all-time playing in Myrtle Beach.
• Last year, head coach Sylvia Hatchell won her 1,000th career game on Dec. 19, 2017 with a 79-63 victory over Grambling State at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.Â
