North Carolina leads 5-0. The most recent meeting was a memorable one for the North Carolina program. Hall of Fame head coach Sylvia Hatchell returned to the bench for the 83-49 win against Howard after missing the previous year while battling leukemia. She had coached the team's two exhibition games, but this was her first time coaching a game that counted since a loss at Delaware in the second round of the 2013 NCAA tournament.
LAST TIME OUT
Unique Thompson scored 21 points and grabbed 18 rebound to lead Auburn to an 86-81 victory in overtime over North Carolina on Thursday, Dec. 20 from the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Shayla Bennett paced North Carolina with 19 points and eight assists, while Paris Kea and Stephanie Watts each had 16 points and Taylor Koenen added 13. Thompson's double-double helped Auburn improve to 10-1 on the season. Janiah McKay matched Thompson with 21 points and Crystal Primm offered up 18 for the Tigers.
TAR HEEL TIDBITS
• Janelle Bailey is third in the ACC with seven double-doubles. She had a streak of scoring in double figures in 23 consecutive games snapped last time out against Auburn.
• Stephanie Watts, who missed all of last season with a knee injury, leads the team in scoring at 16.4 points per game. She is averaged 20.5 points and shooting 46.8 percent (37-79) from three-point land over the last eight games.
• Shayla Bennett has handed out an average of 8.3 assists over the last four games.
• Paris Kea is six points shy of 1,500 career points (215 came at Vanderbilt)
