Carolina Travels to Charlotte for Midweek Matchup

CHAPEL HILL – After hosting the annual Carolina Classic, North Carolina hits the road to take on Charlotte Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Sue M. Daughtridge Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Tar Heels bookended week four's competition with wins over Hampton and Harvard at home to improve to 6-13 on the season.

Charlotte (6-10) returns home from the Judy Garman Classic in Fullerton, California to hosts both Duke and North Carolina in a pair of midweek contents on Tuesday and Wednesday. The 49ers have dropped four of their last five, but two of those losses were to No. 23 Michigan and No. 8 Baylor.

The Tar Heels lead the series against the 49ers, 49-14. Carolina has won the last three meetings, including a 5-1 victory in Chapel Hill during the 2017 season. On March 7, 2017, A trio of home runs by Katelyn Shifflett, Berlynne Delamora and Kendra Lynch propelled Carolina's victory, while the pitching duo of Hannah Nommensen and Brittany Pickett limited the 49ers to two hits.

New Faces Stepping Up at the Plate
Sophomores Hailey Jensen and Hailey Cole, and redshirt-freshman Kristina Burkhardt each earned a spot in the starting lineup during the fourth week of competition as the trio batted .493 collectively. The group logged 20 hits and nine of Carolina's 22 RBIs, including a pair of home runs by Jensen and Burkhardt. In the Carolina Classic opener, Cole hit 3-for-3 at the plate and ended the weekend with a four-game hitting streak. Against Harvard on Sunday, Burkhardt went 4-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs while also making five putouts in right field. Jensen, with only 17 at-bats this season, is hitting at a .471 clip with eight hits and three RBIs in the Carolina Classic alone.

North Carolina returns home to kick of ACC play versus crosstown rival, Duke Friday through Sunday at Anderson Stadium. The ACC Opener begins Friday at 6 p.m. First pitch Saturday and Sunday is slated for 1 p.m.
