Carolina Hosts NC State for Senior Weekend

CHAPEL HILL – Following weekend sweep of Virginia Tech and splitting a pair of midweek games, the Tar Heels (23-20, 11-4 ACC) welcome NC State (21-19, 4-10 ACC) for a three-game series Friday, Saturday and Monday with the finale airing live on ESPNU. UNC has ACC series wins over Duke, Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

Saturday, the team will honor its senior players, managers and graduate assistant athletic trainer: #7 Taylor Wike, #17 Katelyn Shifflett, manager Lauren Brewer, manager Bethany Turner and second year graduate assistant athletic trainer Vasiliki Kostogiannes. Friday's game is slate for 6 p.m. followed by Saturday at 1 p.m. with both games on the ACC Network Extra. The series finale will take place Monday at 7 p.m. and will be live on ESPNU. Live stats for all three games are available on UNClivestats.com.

Carolina logged its fifth ACC series win over Virginia Tech last weekend then shutout Longwood Tuesday, before falling to James Madison on the road Wednesday. Upping hitting streak to 11 games, Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .402 average for the season while batting .615 during week nine with her first home run of the year against Virginia Tech. With a .347 average, Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in nearly several offensive categories: home runs (7), RBI (27), slugging percentage (.603), walks (22) and on-base percentage (.459). Leah Murray owns a .356 average, leading the team in runs scored (26) and stolen bases (27). With a 21-7 record, Brittany Pickett ranks second nationally in victories, tossing 225.0 of Carolina's 292.2 innings pitched, going 11-2 in March alone.

NC State leads the all-time series, 52-26. However, the Tar Heels won the most recent matchup, 8-7 on May 12, 2017 in the ACC Tournament semifinal round. The Tar Heels and Wolfpack first met on April 16, 1977 with NC State winning the first 11 meetings and the first 19 out of 21. However, since then the series is nearly even at 34-33 in favor of Carolina. In conference play, UNC leads, 20-17, while NCSU has one more series win, 7-6 since 2004. The Tar Heels won the two most recent series after the Wolfpack won the two prior.
