Tar Heels Continue Road Trip at Liberty

CHAPEL HILL – In the midst of a seven-game road trip, Carolina travels to Liberty for a midweek contest Wednesday at 6 p.m. after dropping the series at Georgia Tech. Fans can listen online at Liberty.edu/TheLight or follow live stats at UNClivestats.com.

After dropping the series to Georgia Tech, Carolina (27-23, 14-7 ACC) slides to second in the ACC Coastal division thanks to series wins over NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia, and sweeps over Duke and Virginia Tech. Carolina logged its sixth ACC series win over NC State, capping off the series with a Monday night, 8-0 in six innings on ESPNU. The Tar Heels tacked on another win two days later, topping ECU, 4-3 in a back-and-forth contest that was settled by Brittany Pickett's second home run in as many games to total five for the week. Kiani Ramsey leads the team with a .390 average for the season with a team-best 53 hits. With a .354 average, Taylor Wike tops the team leaderboards in several offensive categories: home runs (8), RBI (32), slugging percentage (.612) and on-base percentage (.455). Leah Murray owns a .366 average, leading the team in runs scored (30) and stolen bases (30). With a 25-9 record, Pickett ranks second nationally in victories and fifth in shutouts, tossing two against NC State.

Leading the Big South, Liberty  (32-12, 15-3 Big South) wraps up a five-game home-stand against Carolina after winning the past five in a row. Twins Autumn and Amber Bishop lead the Flames' offense, batting .374 and .366, respectively. Elizabeth Engler owns a team-best ERA of 1.83 while Julia DiMartino has a record of 21-7.

The Series
UNC leads the series against Liberty, 11-1, despite dropping the most recent meeting, 3-2 in nine innings on Feb. 22, 2018 as part of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic. After winning the first 11 meetings from 1984-2001, the Tar Heels and Flames met in Cathedral City, California earlier this season. Carolina led 1-0 through six innings and reclaimed the lead in the eighth due to the international tie-breaker. However, Liberty scored on a UNC error for the 3-2 win. The Tar Heels are 3-0 at Liberty, but have not played at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium since its opening in 2015.
