Four Tar Heels Named Academic All-ACC
June 26, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse, Academics
CHAPEL HILL—Four Tar Heels have been named to the 2018 Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Women's Lacrosse Team, announced Tuesday by the league. Ela Hazar, Katie Hoeg, Marie McCool and Emma Trenchard were selected for the 36-member team, which honors outstanding academic and athletic performance.Â
Â
Hazar, from Westwood, Mass., graduated in May with a degree in sociology. She ended her Tar Heel playing career as the school's career record holder for assists with 121 and earned third-team All-America honors in 2018 for the second consecutive season.
Â
Hoeg, from Mattituck, N.Y., is a rising junior majoring in biology. In 2018, she earned first-team All-America and All-ACC honors after setting Carolina single-season records with 89 points and 50 assists in her first season as a starter.
Â
McCool, from Moorestown, N.J., graduated in May with a degree in management and society. She is perhaps the most decorated player in Tar Heel history, earning recognition as the only two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist in program annals. The 2017 ACC Women's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, she was a two-time winner of the ACC Midfielder of the Year award and one of only three players in program history to earn first-team All-America honors three times.
Â
Trenchard, from Windsor, Conn., is a rising sophomore majoring in psychology. She started all 21 games in 2018, helping to anchor the Tar Heel defense and earning a spot on the All-ACC Tournament Team.Â
Â
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
