CHAPEL HILL—The temperatures are rising as summer has arrived in Chapel Hill. The Roy Williams Carolina Basketball Camp begins its first session on Sunday, and with camp comes the annual pickup games between current and former Tar Heel players.Â
Whether it's June or January, Carolina's basketball team makes news year-round. Here are some of the latest news & notes about Carolina Basketball some may have missed in the last week.
1. NEWS & NOTES
• Kennedy Meeks stopped by the Carolina Insider podcast, discussing the 2017 NCAA championship, his journey in professional basketball and more. Hosts Jones Angell and Adam Lucas also discussed Luke Maye's withdrawal from the NBA Draft process and its impact on the Tar Heel lineup for this season:
• Congratulations to incoming freshman guard Coby White, who made the 12-man roster of the United States U18 National Team earlier this week.
2. LAST WEEK
• Tar Heel legend Rasheed Wallace supported the Diamond Heels at last weekend's Chapel Hill Regional in the NCAA baseball tournament. The Tar Heels will host Stetson in the super regionals this weekend:
• The current Tar Heels also are big supporters of the Carolina baseball team, which will play in Boshamer Stadium this weekend for a trip to the College World Series:
3. 2018-19 SEASON TIDBITS
• Carolina will travel to Ann Arbor to face the University of Michigan in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge this November.

• ESPN's Jeff Borzello was at the USA men's basketball U-18 training camp last week in Colorado Springs, Colo. Incoming UNC freshman guard Coby White made the cut when the roster was reduced from 33 to 18 players (and later made the 12-man squad). Borzello wrote about White's "stellar performance" at the camp and speculated on his possible role as a Tar Heel in 2018-19.
• The ACC Sports Journal had an early preview of the 2018-19 Tar Heels, wondering what lineup combinations Roy Williams might employ after the graduations of Joel Berry II and Theo Pinson.
• CBS ranks Carolina among the winners of the post-NBA Draft withdrawal process period.
4. TAR HEELS IN THE PROS
• Vince Carter, the longest-tenured Tar Heel ever to play in the NBA, recently won a pair of awards from the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). Last week he won the NBPA Backbone Award, voted by teammates as the player who "best demonstrates the heart and soul of the team." This week, he won the Most Respected Award in the Players' Voice Awards. The award is given to the most influential veteran in the NBA.
• Carter looked back at one of the most electrifying nights of his more than two decades in the NBA, the start of the "Vinsanity" era of his career.
• Danny Green seemed to enjoy his recent trip to Japan as he helped the NBA spread its brand in Asia:
• Joel Berry II worked out for the Phoenix Suns.
• Rick Fox owns Echo Fox, an e-sports organization, and is betting big on e-sports.
• Harrison Barnes will play for Team World in the NBA Africa Game in August in Pretoria, South Africa.
