Only ACC School with Four Honorees
The Golf Coaches Association of America named 265 collegiate men's golfers Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholars for 2018, including four University of North Carolina Tar Heels – seniors Ben Griffin, Jose Montaño and William Register and junior Joshua Martin.
Carolina was the only program in the ACC with four All-America scholars. Duke had three, NC State, Virginia and Wake Forest each had two and six other schools had one apiece. Griffin, Montaño and Register all made the list in 2017 as well.
To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status a player must be a junior or senior academically, compete at least three full seasons, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.
"This is a special honor, as it means you are getting it done both on the golf course and in the classroom," says UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. "Coach (Matt) Clark and I are thrilled for our players, who worked extremely hard and are deserving of this award. It's incredible for our program to have four All-America Scholars in the same year. We take great pride in the players being student-athletes and this recognition reinforces that commitment."
Griffin, Montaño, Register and Martin were four-fifths of Carolina's starting lineup in the 2018 NCAA Championship, where the Tar Heels finished 15th, their highest finish in 15 seasons. They also earned Academic All-ACC honors and were among six Tar Heels who made the ACC Honor Roll.
