CHAPEL HILL - The WNBA playoffs begin Tuesday night with a pair of single-elimination, first-round games that will feature two former North Carolina women's basketball standouts on ESPN2.
Camille Little and the Phoenix Mercury take on Dallas at 8:30 p.m. ET, while Erlana Larkins and the Minnesota Lynx go up against LA Sparks at 10:30 p.m. ET.
Little has made seven starts and appeared in 33 games in her 12th season in the league. She is averaging 3.0 points and 1.8 rebounds in 16.2 minutes per game.
Larkins, who joined the club at midseason, averages 2.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in 12.9 minutes over 13 games as a reserve forward for the Lynx.
Jessica Breland has helped guide the Atlanta Dream to the No. 2 seed in the WNBA playoffs in her first season with the club. She scored 16 points in the season-finale win at Las Vegas to secure byes through the first two single-elimination rounds, and will have home-court advantage in the best-of-five semifinals.
Breland has started all 34 games and is contributing 8.3 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, the latter figure ranks seventh best in the league.
The Washington Mystics are the No. 3 seed and earned a bye through the first round, and will host a single-elimination, second-round match. The team boasts a pair of Tar Heels in forward LaToya Sanders and guard Tierra Ruffin-Pratt.
Sanders is enjoying a career year in her sixth season, averaging 10.2 points and 4.1 rebounds in starting 25 of 28 games. She has set career highs in points (25 vs. Dallas, 7/19), rebounds (13 vs. Indiana, 8/15) and minutes played (36 vs. Indiana, 8/15).
Ruffin-Pratt has played in all 33 games and made 10 starts. She averages 5.5 points and 2.0 rebounds in her sixth season with Washington.
