Tar Heels Travel to No. 3 Pitt, Virginia

CHAPEL HILL –  Following a top-25 win over Florida State, North Carolina takes a four-match winning streak on the road to No. 3 Pittsburgh and Virginia Friday and Sunday, respectively.
 
The Tar Heels take on the third-ranked Panthers Friday at 7 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Field House for Domestic Abuse Awareness night. Sunday, Carolina takes on the Cavaliers at 1 p.m. in Memorial Gym in Charlottesville, Virginia. Fans unable to attend can watch both matches on ACCNX.
 
Recently for the Tar Heels (7-9, 4-2 ACC)
Redshirt freshman Lauren Harrison garnered ACC player of the Week honors after a 24-kill outing vs. the Seminoles, helping UNC to its first win over a top-25 team since 2016. Totaling 24.0 total blocks, the Tar Heels reset a program record Friday night vs. Miami by recording 44 block assists vs. the Canes. Skyy Howard posted a career-high 13.0 blocks to lead the Tar Heels.
 
About No. 3 Pittsburgh (7-5, 3-1 ACC)
Series: Pitt leads, 11-6 (Pitt won, 3-0 on Oct. 12, 2018 in Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Owning a 38-1 record in the Fitzgerald Field House since 2017, No. 3 Pittsburgh leads the ACC in four statistical categories, including hitting percentage and kills. Setter Lexis Akeo garnered ACC Co-Freshman of the Week honors for the fourth time this season. Junior Kayla Lund leads the team with 228 kills, 3.68 kills per set.
 
About Virginia (9-10, 1-5 ACC)
Series: UNC leads, 49-15 (UVA won, 3-0 on Oct. 14, 2018 in Chapel Hill, N.C.)
Looking for their second conference win and first since defeating Virginia Tech on Sept. 27, the Cavaliers host NC State and Carolina after four road matches. RS Jelena Novakovic leads Virginia with 190 kills and ranks ninth in the ACC with 0.41 aces/set. MB Malla Ciprian sits fourth in conference attacking at an .336 clip.
