Tar Heels Host Syracuse, Boston College for Alumni Weekend

CHAPEL HILL –  Undefeated at home in ACC play, North Carolina welcomes Syracuse and Boston College to Carmichael Arena for Alumni Weekend.

UNC hosts the Orange Friday at 6:30 p.m. Fans can watch on ACCNX. Sunday, fans are encouraged to arrive early for an alumni first serve before Carolina faces Boston College at 2:30 p.m. Those unable to attend can watch on the Fox regional networks and ACCNX (subject to blackout). The Tar Heels will be signing autographs in the Carmichael lobby following the match.

Recently for the Tar Heels (8-10, 5-3 ACC)
Following a setback to ACC-leader No. 3 Pittsburgh, the Tar Heels bounced back to defeat Virginia in straight sets on Sunday afternoon in Charlottesville. UNC trailed by as many as seven in the first set but fought back to win the set, 26-24 and close out the match for the first conference sweep of the season.

Led by error-less matches from four Carolina attackers, the Tar Heels hit .375 to record their best match, offensively, since 2017. UNC balanced its offense between Skylar Wine and Lauren Harrison each with double-digit kills while Skyy Howard hit .600 on six kills and Destiny Cox hit .562 on nine.

The Tar Heels lead the conference with 193.5 total blocks while both Aristea Tontai and Skyy Howard rank top-10 in the ACC in blocks per set. Ranking fourth in the conference, Lauren Harrison leads the Tar Heels with 3.69 kills per set.

Series: UNC leads, 8-2 (Syracuse won, 3-0 on Oct. 19, 2018 in Syracuse, N.Y.)
Ranking third in the ACC by averaging 1.53 aces per set, Syracuse travels to the Triangle to face North Carolina and NC State, after dropping matches at Miami and Florida State. Polina Shemanova leads the conference in both kills and points per set while ranking top five in total kills and aces and attacks per set.

About Boston College (15-6, 6-2 ACC)
Series: UNC leads, 22-1 (BC won, 3-0 on Oct. 21, 2018 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.)
Leading the ACC in assists, kills and aces, Boston College continues its four-match road trip at NC State and North Carolina. Tied for fourth in the ACC, BC split its trip to the Sunshine State, falling to FSU and defeating Miami. Amaka Chukwujekwu ranks second in conference with a .431 hitting percentage and 91 total blocks.
