Carolina Hosts Kitty Harrison Invite This Weekend
October 31, 2019 | Women's Tennis
CHAPEL HILL - The North Carolina women's tennis program hosts the 16th-annual Kitty Harrison Invitational Friday through Sunday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
This year's eight-team field features five Atlantic Coast Conference squads - Duke, North Carolina, NC State, Notre Dame and Virginia - as well as three other outstanding programs - Oregon, Tulane and William & Mary.Â
The tournament is held in honor of Kitty Harrison, head coach of the North Carolina women's tennis team from 1976 to 1998. Eight of Harrison's 22 teams were ranked among the top 25 nationally and, under her direction, Carolina won four ACC Championships in a row from 1977 to 1980 and finished as the league runner-up four other times.Â
Harrison retired after the 1997-98 season as the winningest tennis coach in ACC history in terms of dual-match victories with a 22-year record of 351-224. She was inducted into the North Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame in 2004.
The event is scheduled to begin with doubles on Friday morning at 10 a.m. before singles gets underway at 1 p.m.
Saturday and Sunday is slated to begin at 9 a.m. each day.Â
Admission is free all weekend.
