Tshitenge Named ACC Freshman of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – After averaging a double-double in UNC's last two games, North Carolina forward Malu Tshitenge has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week. The league announced its weekly winners on Monday. It's Tshitenge's first honor as a Tar Heel.

Tshitenge averaged 13.0 points and 12.5 rebounds in two Carolina wins last week. Against Navy on Monday, she had 11 points and nine rebounds. Against Charleston Southern on Friday, she recorded her first career double-double with 15 points and a team-best 16 rebounds, including 12 off the offensive glass.

A starter in all three games for the Tar Heels (3-0), Tshitenge is averaging 15.0 points and an ACC-best 10.7 rebounds this season.

UNC returns to action on Friday, hosting Elon for a 6 p.m. game at Carmichael Arena. It's the last of four consecutive home games to start the season. Next week, the Tar Heels head for Mexico to compete in the Cancun Challenge, where they'll face Temple on Nov. 28 and Missouri on Nov. 29.
