Tar Heels Host Yale On Saturday

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina women's basketball returns to action Saturday for the first of two home games to close out 2019. The Tar Heels (9-1) host Yale at Carmichael Arena for a 1 p.m. tipoff.
It's the annual Dollar Day game, with all tickets $1 and the first 200 hotdogs and small sodas $1 each.
Last Time Out
The Tar Heels beat UNCW 85-45 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., on Dec. 20 in their most recent game. Five Carolina players scored in double figures, led by freshman Malu Tshitenge's 19 points. She and junior Janelle Bailey both turned in double-doubles, with 19-10 and 10-15, respectively. UNC shot 50 percent (32-64) from the field for the second-highest shooting percentage of the season.
UNC vs. Yale
NC leads the series with Yale 1-0, with the only other meeting coming during the 2015-16 season. On Nov. 22, 2015, the Tar Heels won 70-63 as part of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Challenge at Carmichael Arena. Jamie Cherry led UNC with 24 points.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Yale is 7-3 this season and last played on Dec. 19, beating Sacred Heart 87-40 in the program's largest margin of victory since 1981. Sophomore forward Camilla Emsbo led the Bulldogs with 23 points and nine rebounds to earn Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the second time this season.
• Emsbo leads Yale with 16.5 points and 9.4 rebounds per game this season. She has an identical twin, Kira, who plays at Princeton, where she was coached last season by current UNC coach Courtney Banghart.
• Saturday's game is a homecoming for Yale sophomore Robin Gallagher, who is from Cary and graduated from Athens Drive in Raleigh.

• All five UNC starters are averaging in double figures, led by Janelle Bailey with 15.7 ppg.
• UNC is leading the ACC in scoring offense (82.50 ppg), scoring margin (+26.20), turnover margin (+5.00) and assist/turnover ratio (1.44). The Tar Heels rank no lower than ninth in the 15-team league in any conference statistical category.
• Carolina is the only team in the conference that does not rank in double digits in a single statistical category.
• UNC is coming off a 50.0 percent field goal shooting performance in the win over UNCW. It was the second time this season the Tar Heels have shot 50.0 or better. (The other was against Navy.)
