Tar Heels Open Spring Play at TPC Sawgrass
Austin Hitt shot a 2 under 68 in the second round to lead the University of North Carolina men's golf team to sixth place after 36 holes at the Sea Best Invitational.
Fourteen teams are competing at the Sea Best, Carolina's first spring event of the season, at TPC at Sawgrass, Dye's Valley.
The Tar Heels shot 5-over-par 285 in both the first and second rounds today. The third and final round is Tuesday.
The University of Florida leads after shooting 278-281 for a 1 under 559, two shots ahead of North Florida (561). NC State is third (564), Liberty is fourth (568) and Florida State is fifth, one shot ahead of the Tar Heels at 9 over 569.
Hitt, a junior from Longwood, Fla., made 17 pars and one bogey for a 1 over 71 in the morning round, then shot a 3 under 32 on the front side en route to a 68 in the afternoon.
Hitt is tied for sixth place at 1 under, six strokes behind Jacksonville's Eduardo Carrete, who leads at 7 under following a 69-64 start.
Ryan Burnett is tied for 17th after back-to-back 71s, Ryan Gerard is tied for 31st (70-74), Joshua Martin is tied for 39th (74-72) and Dougie Ergood is tied for 50th (73-76).
