Paris Kea Named All-America Regional Finalist
March 21, 2019 | Women's Basketball
ATLANTA - North Carolina senior Paris Kea has been named a regional finalist for the 2019 WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America Team, announced Thursday by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association. The selection committee will select the 10-member WBCA NCAA Division I Coaches' All-America team from 52 candidates.
Kea, a back-to-back first team All-ACC selection each of her final two seasons with the Tar Heels, has averaged 17.1 points per game in her senior campaign in leading Carolina to the NCAA Tournament.Â
Perhaps she will be best remembered for her 30-point, 10-assist performance in knocking off No. 1 Notre Dame on Jan. 27, 2019. Kea became just the fourth Division I player in the last 20 years to have those numbers against a ranked opponent. She scored a season-high 32 points against No. 9 NC State, and averaged 22.1 ppg and shot over 50 percent in seven games versus top-25 opponents this season.Â
Kea was an unanimous national player of the week recipient following that performance against the Irish.
From Greensboro, Kea put on a show in her hometown at the 2019 ACC Tournament by scoring 27 points against the top seeded Fighting Irish and was named to the all-tournament team thanks to her 23.0 points she put up over her final two games at the Greensboro Coliseum.
Carolina (18-14) is the No. 9 seed in the Greensboro Region and will face eighth seed California (19-12) in a NCAA Tournament first-round game on Saturday in Waco, Texas. ESPN2 will have the coverage beginning at 3:30 p.m. ET.Â
