Keefer Runs Fourth-Best 100 in UNC History
April 13, 2019 | Track & Field
CORAL GABLES, Fla. / GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina's Anna Keefer etched her name into the UNC record books for the second time this year. Keefer, a sophomore from St. Michaels Albertville, Minn., finished fourth in the women's 100 at Miami's Hurricane Alumni Invitational with the fourth-best time (11.43) in Carolina history.
"Anna Keefer had an outstanding performance in the women's 100 meter," head coach Harlis Meaders said. "She continues to get better on the track. We're still waiting for her to really put things together and get that speed on the runway because we feel like she's going to be a truly exceptional long jumper. The speed just keeps coming on the track so that's been exciting to watch."
Keefer also earned another first-place finish in the women's long jump with her mark of 19-9 1/2 (6.03 meters).
The sophomore ranks third all-time at UNC in the 60-meter dash. The 2018 ACC champion and 2019 ACC runner-up in the women's indoor long jump, Keefer is proving herself to be quite the competitor in her so-called secondary events.
The Tar Heels set 10 new season best times/marks. With just two weekends left in the regular season, the team and coaches are hopeful to see the progression peak when it matters most.
"Overall, it was a really exciting weekend for us down here in Miami," Meaders said. "The kids continue to get better across the board. I think most of our student-athletes had season bests so it's reassuring for us to see the kids continuing to improve each meet. As we get closer to the championship part of the season, these kinds of improvements are so important and we've seen our student-athletes really step up for the last couple of weeks."
