DURHAM, N.C. / CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The North Carolina track and field team is set to compete in two meets from April 19-20 — the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. and the Virginia Challenge in Charlottesville, Va.

The Duke Invitational will begin Friday at 9 a.m. with the B sections of the men's 5,000 meters on the track and the women's hammer on the field. Competition will resume Saturday at 11 a.m. with the men's discus.

After a schedule change, the Virginia Challenge now kicks off Friday at 9 a.m. with the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and Saturday's events begin at 10 a.m. also with the men's discus.

At Duke, the Tar Heels will primarily compete in middle distance and field events with a few appearances in the sprints and hurdles. Distance competitors as well as high jumpers and throwers will head up to Virginia's campus for the weekend.

LAST TIME OUT
North Carolina's Madison Wiltrout and Anna Keefer led the Tar Heel performances at North Carolina A&T's Aggie Invitational and Miami's Hurricane Alumni Invitational as they etched their names into the UNC record books for the second time this year.

Wiltrout, a sophomore from Connellsville, Pa., set a new school record of 181-4 (55.28) in the women's javelin for an 11-foot collegiate best mark in Miami. Her performance ranks second in the ACC by just four inches and seventh in the NCAA.

Keefer, a sophomore from St. Michael Albertville, Minn., finished fourth in the women's 100 in Florida with the fourth-best time (11.43) in Carolina history. She also earned another first-place finish in the women's long jump with her mark of 19-9 1/2 (6.03 meters).

Overall, the Tar Heels set three personal bests and 13 season-best times/marks. North Carolina also combined for four individual event titles and 11 top-three finishes.

IN THE RANKINGS
North Carolina holds 11 top-five times/marks in the ACC, eight top-20 times/marks in the NCAA East Region and 10 top-50 times/marks in NCAA Division I outdoor competition. Three Tar Heel women are currently in the NCAA top 10 in their respective events — Nicole Greene is tied for second in the high jump, Jill Shippee ranks fifth in the hammer throw and Madison Wiltrout stands at seventh in the javelin.
