Tar Heels Tied for 2nd with 18 Holes to Play
Tar Heel freshman Ryan Burnett (Lafayette, Calif.) made an eagle and seven birdies en route to a 3-under-par 67 and junior Austin Hitt (Longwood, Fla.) rebounded from an opening-round 75 to shoot 68 to lead the University of North Carolina to a tie for second place after 36 holes at the 2019 NCAA Stanford Men's Golf Regional.

The top five teams after Wednesday's third round advance to the 2019 NCAA Championship, which begins May 24 in Fayetteville, Ark.
Burnett matched his season-best round of 67 with six pars, an eagle, seven birdies, two bogeys and two double bogeys. It was the second straight day a freshman led the Tar Heels (Dougie Ergood opened with a 66 on Monday). Burnett eagled the 429-yard, par-4 sixth hole by holing out a lob wedge from 98 yards. He is tied for 19th place at even-par 140.
Hitt mader four birdies and two bogeys for his second-round 68, his team-leading 13th round in the 60s this season.
Senior Joshua Martin shot even today and is tied for 11th place after 36 holes with a 2-under-138. Martin made 16 pars for the second time in as many days. Monday, he had two birdies and no bogeys. The Pinehurst native had a birdie and a bogey in round two. He is one of 10 players in the 75-player field to shoot par or better in both rounds.
Sophomore Ryan Gerard (Raleigh) birdied four consecutive holes on the back side and also shot an even-par 70.
Ergood shot 77 today and is tied for 34th place with Gerard and Hitt.
"It's been team golf so far for us which is what you need, especially this time of year," says UNC head coach Andrew DiBitetto. "Dougie and Josh carried us in round one. Today, Ryan Burnett and Austin stepped up and shot under par and Ryan Gerard and Josh were both very solid. We still feel like we are leaving shots on the course and can play better. Our guys are hungry to get back out there tomorrow."
The third and final round of the NCAA Stanford Regional is Wednesday. Carolina is paired with Stanford and Arizona State with tee times getting started at 11 a.m. Eastern.
The Cardinal's Isaiah Salinda leads the individual standings at 7-under-133. His Stanford teammates Brandon Wu and David Snyder and Ole Miss's Sarut Vongchaisit are tied for second two strokes off the lead.
