Tar Heels Head To Baltimore For Final Four Rubber Match Vs. Eagles

TAR HEELS WILL MEET EAGLES IN FINAL FOUR RUBBER MATCH
• Third-seeded and four-time defending Atlantic Coast Conference champion North Carolina (17-3) will try to advance to the national championship game for the fifth time when it meets second-seeded Boston College (20-1) on Friday in Baltimore.Â
• The Tar Heels and Eagles will meet for the third time this season on Friday at 5 p.m. in the first national semifinal, hosted by Johns Hopkins University.
• BC beat Carolina during the regular season in Chapel Hill, and the Tar Heels returned the favor by beating the Eagles in the ACC Tournament title game in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
• Carolina is coming off a 14-7 win over sixth-seeded Virginia in the NCAA quarterfinals last Saturday and is riding an eight-game winning streak.Â
• ESPN News will televise the game live and ESPN3 will stream it live online. The broadcast team will include John Brickley (play-by-play), Sheehan Stanwick Burch (analyst), Jon Weiner (analyst) and Halley Quillinan Griggs (sideline).

• UNC spotted top-seeded Boston College a five-goal lead in the opening minutes, then regrouped behind a stout defensive effort to earn a 15-13 victory in the ACC Tournament championship game on April 28.
• The Tar Heels outscored BC, 14-7, over the final 51 minutes.Â
• Jamie Ortega, who tallied 19 points with 13 goals in three tournament games, earned MVP honors.
• The Tar Heels placed midfielder Gianna Bowe, attacker Katie Hoeg, defender Emma Trenchard and goalkeeper Elise Hennessey alongside Ortega on the All-Tournament team. Hennessey played particularly well after replacing All-ACC teammate Taylor Moreno in goal at the 21:18 mark of the first half with BC leading, 6-1, holding her own against the Eagles' high-powered offense while recording seven saves.

EAGLES DOWN TAR HEELS, 14-8 (March 23, 2019)
• Carolina fell 14-8 to No. 1 Boston College on March 23 in Chapel Hill in a top-three battle at UNC Lacrosse Stadium. Sam Apuzzo led the Eagles with five goals, and Kenzie Kent had a goal and three assists.
• Sophomore Jamie Ortega had three goals and an assist to lead the third-ranked Tar Heels in the loss. UNC also got two goals from sophomore Taylor McDaniels and one each from Marisa DiVietro, Olivia Ferrucci and Gianna Bowe. Junior Katie Hoeg led UNC in assists with four.
ORTEGA SMASHING RECORDS
• Jamie Ortega is on the midst of the top scoring season in UNC women's lacrosse history. She was the first Tar Heel to post a 100-point season this spring (Katie Hoeg has since reached 100 points as well).
• Ortega enters Friday's game with a UNC-record 105 points in 2019. The previous school record was 89 points, set last year by Hoeg (who has 100 points this season, just behind Ortega).Â
• Ortega also has broken the Carolina record for goals in a season. She enters Friday's game with 76 goals. The previous school record was 72, set by Molly Hendrick in 2017.
• Ortega broke the UNC program record for most points in a season with her 12-point performance in the ACC Tournament win over Virginia Tech. Those 12 points are a UNC school record and set an ACC Tournament single-game record as well.Â
• Ortega's 19 points (13 goals and six assists) in winning ACC Tournament MVP honors set a new tournament record. Ortega broke the previous record of 17 set by Alex Aust of Maryland in 2012.
HOEG BREAKS UNC CAREER ASSIST RECORD
• Junior attacker Kate Hoeg is one of the top playmakers in school history and has broken the UNC career assist record in just her second year as a starter.
• Hoeg set the Carolina career record against Florida on May 12 and has 128 career assists. Ela Hazar (2015-18) held the previous record with 121.Â
• Hoeg's 69 assists this year eclipse her own previous school record for most by a Tar Heel in a season (50, set last year).
DYNAMIC DUO
• In 2018, Katie Hoeg (92 points) and Jamie Ortega (86) posted the two best scoring seasons in Carolina history. In 2019, Ortega and Hoeg have both surpassed last year's record-breaking efforts.
