Sabato Named First Team Collegiate Baseball All-America

Chapel Hill -- ACC Freshman of the Year Aaron Sabaro was named a First-Team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, the site announced Thursday morning. A native of Rye Brook, N.Y., Sabato having one of the best freshman seasons in recent Carolina Baseball history. He is the first freshman since 2009 to hit more than 10 home runs in a season and his 14 home runs are one shy of the freshman record at Carolina, only trailing Chad Flack's 15 home runs during his freshman campaign in 2005. Sabato also led the team in batting average during conference play (.358), and is the first freshman to do that since Colin Moran was named ACC Freshman of the year in 2011. He currently leads the team in batting average (.338), hits (70), doubles (23), home runs (14), RBIs (56), total bases (137) and slugging percentage (.662). The freshman leads the team in multi-hit games (21) and multi-RBI games (16) and is the first Tar Heel since 2012 to hit for the cycle when he did so on Thursday May 16 against NC State. He is the seventh Tar Heel to be named the ACC Freshman of the Year joining Brian Roberts (1997), Adam Greenberg (2000), Daniel Bard (2004), Dustin Ackley (2007), Colin Moran (2011) and Ashton McGee (2017).
