CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina placed five of its standout players on the 2019 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NCAA Division I All-America list, more than any other program in the country.Â
Carolina has had five different players earn All-America status in successive seasons for the first time.Â
In 16 seasons under the leadership of head coach Brian Kalbas, the Tar Heels have had 24 players receive a total of 56 All-America awards.Â
Senior Jessie Aney earned her third All-America doubles honors. She joins former teammate Hayley Carter as the only two in Tar Heel history to accomplish the feat.
Junior Alexa Graham garnered All-America honors in both singles and doubles playing alongside Aney. The Garden City, N.Y., native has three total All-America honors in her career - singles (2019) and doubles (2018, 2019).Â
Junior Makenna Jones also received All-America plaudits in both disciplines this season. She now has back-to-back singles awards, and teamed up with freshman Cameron Morra on the doubles side.Â
Junior Sara Daavettila played her way into All-America singles status for the second time in three seasons by reaching the quarterfinals at the NCAA Singles Championship.Â
Morra gained All-America notoriety in both singles and doubles in her rookie season in Chapel Hill. The ACC Freshman of the Year and 2019 ACC Championship MVP advanced all the way to the semifinals of the NCAA Singles Championship and teamed up with Jones in doubles.Â
The criteria for ITA All-America honors include earning a top 16 seed into the NCAA Singles Championship, advancing to the round of 16 at the NCAA Championship or finishing in the top 20 of the final Oracle/ITA Singles Rankings. All-America recognition is awarded to doubles teams that earn a top eight seed into the NCAA Championship, reach the NCAA Championship quarterfinals or finish in the top 10 in the final Oracle/ITA National Doubles Rankings.
