Tar Heels Host Illinois in ACC/Big Ten Challenge

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina welcomes Illinois to Chapel Hill for the first time in program history for the annual Big Ten/ACC Women's Basketball Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 5.

Carolina is 8-4 in the Challenge and 5-1 at home since 2007. Carolina and Illinois have never met in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.

UNC has won every game of the series against Illinois, 5-0. Each meeting in program history has been a neutral site matchup with the first in 1988-89 and the most recent in 2013-14. Carolina topped the Illini 87-51 at the Cancun Challenge on Nov. 20, 2013. The Tar Heels won the first meeting, 94-72 on Nov. 26, 1988. Â

In 2018, the ACC won the 12th annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge 8-6 to earn its ninth outright Challenge title. The ACC is 89-61 against the Big Ten in Challenge games.
