GREENSBORO, N.C. - North Carolina All-America tennis players Jessie Aney, Sara Daavettila and Makenna Jones have been selected for the 2018-19 All-ACC Academic Women's Tennis Team, announced Friday by the league office.
Aney, who graduated last month with a business degree from Carolina, earns her third placement on the academic team in four seasons after making it as both a freshman and sophomore. The Rochester, Minnesota, native became just the second player in program history to receive three All-America citations in doubles, and finished her career with the 127 singles wins, tied for third most all-time at UNC.Â
Daavettila makes the team for the second time after a stellar junior campaign that saw the Williamston, Michigan, product earn All-America singles honors by reaching the quarterfinals at the NCAA Singles Championship in Orlando. The communications major was 32-8 in singles in 2018-19 and will enter her senior campaign with 104 career victories.Â
Jones, a native of Greenville, S.C., earned the league's academic award for the third year in a row. The exercise and sport science major garnered All-America status this past season in both singles and doubles.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
Miami's Estela Perez-Somarriba, the NCAA Singles National Champion, is the 2019 ACC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
