Chapel Hill -- Former Tar Heel gymnast Courtney Bumpers was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Region 8 Hall of Fame on Saturday evening in Atlanta, Georgia.
A two-time NCAA champion in the floor exercise, she was the 2006 East Atlantic Gymnastics League Gymnast of the Year and was named All-EAGL in vault, beam, floor, uneven bars and all-around. She was the recipient of the 2006 American Award, a national honor that goes to a senior gymnast who is outstanding in academics and athletics. She was also named the Co-NCAA Woman of the Year for the Atlantic Coast Conference in 2006.
"It was a joy to see Courtney and her family! We are so very proud and happy for her, not only for what she did as a student-athlete at Carolina but also for the amazing things she has done since graduating," said head coach Derek Galvin. "She is a wonderful person who continues to be a blessing to the people around her in her family, and professionally as a lawyer."
Bumpers Grande practiced as a federal prosecutor in Charlotte before becoming an associate at Bass, Berry & Sims in Nashville. She then served as operations counsel for Community Health Systems in Franklin, Tenn., where she now serves as litigation counsel.
