Hitt, Burnett Qualify for U.S. Amateur

Advance to Historic Pinehurst No. 2
University of North Carolina golfers Austin Hitt and Ryan Burnett secured two of the four spots that were up for grabs at a qualifying tournament at UNC Finley to advance to the 2019 United States Amateur.
The 2019 Amateur will be contested at the historic Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C., August 12-18.
Hitt and Burnett finished first and second, respectively, in the 102-player field at Finley.
Hitt, a rising senior from Longwood, Fla., bested the field by shooting 69-68 for a 7-under-par 137 total. He edged Burnett, a rising sophomore from Lafayette, Calif., by a single stroke. Burnett shot 70 in the first round before matching Hitt's 68 for the low round on day two. Hitt was the only player to shoot in the 60s in both rounds.
Nick Dunlap of Greer, S.C., and Nick Lyerly of Salisbury, N.C., also advanced to the U.S. Amateur from the Finley qualifier.
Former Tar Heel Henry Do, a senior in 2017, qualified last week at an event in Michigan. Current Tar Heels Ryan Gerard and Austin Greaser will attempt to qualify at tournaments next week.
