New Tar Heels Take on FDOC

CHAPEL HILL – With the 2019-20 academic year kicking off today on the first day of classes, four new Tar Heels begin their academic careers in Chapel Hill. Although they have been on campus this summer, Nia Daniel, Lexi Duckett, Malu Tshitenge and Kennady Tucker begin their first fall semester at Carolina Tuesday.
A Charlotte, N.C. native, Daniel is a three-start rated guard by ESPN. She was a three-time captain and four-year letterwinner at Hickory Ridge High School. Daniel has yet to declare a major at Carolina.
A three-star rated guard by ESPN, Duckett comes from Daytona Beach, Fla. In a 2017 playoff game, she set a Father Lopez school record by scoring 48 points. Duckett plans to major in business.
A native of Germantown, Md., Tshitenge is a four-star rated forward by ESPN. A two-time captain and three-year letterwinner, she recorded 1000 points and rebounds at St. John's College High School. Tshitenge plans to major in business.
A four-star recruit from Little Rock, Ark., Tucker was listed as No. 45 overall and the seventh best guard in the class by Prospect Nation. A team captain and three-time letter winner at North Little Rock High School, Tucker is a two-time all-state selection. She has yet to declare a major.
Daniel, Duckett, Tshitenge, Tucker and the returning Tar Heels begin the 2019-20 season with an exhibition vs. Wingate on Nov. 2. The regular season home opener is on Nov. 7 vs. Western Carolina at Carmichael Arena.
