Greaser One of 12 Players Under Par at Olympia Fields

Tar Heels Ninth in Round 1
Tar Heel freshman Austin Greaser is tied for seventh place after an opening-round 69 on Friday at the Olympia Fields Country Club/Fighting Illini Invitational.
The University of North Carolina is ninth in the 15-school field, which includes 10 teams that competed in the 2019 NCAA Championship.
UNC shot 6-over-286, eight strokes behind Georgia Tech, the day-one leader at 2 under. The Yellow Jackets were the only team to shoot under par. Pepperdine is second at even par, Texas is third at 1 over, Florida State is 2 over and Texas A&M, Baylor and California are tied for fifth at 5 over.
Defending champion Oklahoma State, which was paired with UNC, is 14th at 15 over par.
Greaser birdied the second, and the par-3 eighth and 13th holes, and finished at 1 under. The Vandalia, Ohio, native is one of 12 competitors in the 84-player field to shoot under par at the North Course.
Ryan Burnett was 2 under through seventh and finished with a 1-over-71. Senior Austin Hitt was 3 over par through 13 holes before making birdies at 14, 15 and 16. He also posted a 71.
Freshman Kenan Poole had a 75 in his first start and Ryan Gerard shot 77.
The second round is Saturday and the 54-hole event concludes on Sunday.
