• UNC hosts reigning CFP National Champion Clemson on Sept. 28. The ACC rivals last met in the 2015 ACC Championship that went to the Tigers by a 45-37 margin.Â
• Clemson will be the first consensus reigning champs ever to visit Kenan Stadium, and the first national champion of any kind to come to Chapel Hill since Tennessee in 1951.Â
• Clemson last visited Chapel Hill in 2010, a 21-16 Tar Heel victory.
• UNC is 11-15-1 all-time at home against Clemson in a series that dates back to 1897. Since the turn of the century, the Tigers have only visited Chapel Hill three times (2000, 2002, 2010).Â
BROWN VS. CLEMSON
• North Carolina head coach Mack Brown posted a 3-7 record against Clemson during his first reign with the Tar Heels between 1988-97.
• UNC earned home wins in 1993 and 1996 and posted a road win in 1997.
• The 1996 win was a resounding 45-0 score line, marking the most points ever tallied by the Tar Heels in the series.
PALMETTO STATE RIVALS
• UNC is facing Clemson and South Carolina in the same season for the first time since 2015 and just the second occurrence going back to 1991.Â
• Carolina last defeated both border rivals in the same season in 1964. The Tar Heels opened 2019 with a 24-20 victory over the Gamecocks.
NEXT UP
• The month of October features a trio of ACC Coastal opponents as well as the first of two open dates. Carolina travels to Atlanta to take on Georgia Tech on Oct. 5 at 4 p.m. on ACC Network, before an open date on Oct. 12. The Tar Heels will then return to the road to face Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Oct. 19.
