TAR HEELS AND SEMINOLES
• Carolina and Florida State meet for the 20th occasion on the football field this Saturday for a primetime 7:30 p.m. kickoff on ABC.
• Saturday marks the third successive meeting between the two schools in Tallahassee, Fla. The previous two outcomes have been identical 37-35 Tar Heel victories in 2010 and most recently in 2016.
• In 2016, Nick Weiler made a 54-yard field goal as time expired to knock off the 12th-ranked Noles.Â
• Carolina's offense put on a clinic last week in a 56-45 romp of No. 19 Virginia Tech. The 101 total points were the most ever scored between two ACC schools ranked in the AP poll. The 56 points were the most UNC has ever scored against an AP-ranked opponent.
• Florida State fell on the road at No. 5 Notre Dame by a 42-26 marginÂ
• FSU has been ranked in all but two of the previous 19 meetings.Â
• Carolina's first win in the FSU series was a 41-9 victory over the No. 6 Seminoles in 2001. At the time, it was highest ranked opponent Carolina had ever defeated according to the AP poll records. Three years later in 2004, the Tar Heels knocked off No. 4 Miami. The 2001 game came just two weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks.
CAROLINA IN THE POLLS
