WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The North Carolina women's basketball team opens Atlantic Coast Conference play Thursday evening with the season's first road game, taking on Wake Forest at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Tipoff is 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast by ACC Network.

The Tar Heels and Demon Deacons are meeting for the 81st time in a series that dates back to the 1974-75 season, UNC's first as a varsity program under the umbrella of the University of North Carolina Department of Athletics. Carolina leads the series 64-16, but Wake has won the last two and four of the past six.
The teams met twice last season, with both games coming within a 10-day span. The regular-season matchup was played on Feb. 23 in Winston-Salem then the teams met again in the first round of ACC Tournament play on March 4. Wake won both games.
UNC and Wake have the 49ers in common as their most-recent opponent: WFU won 78-75 at Charlotte on Dec. 3 and UNC beat Charlotte 81-75 in Chapel Hill on Dec. 6.
As a team, Carolina leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring, scoring margin and assist-turnover ratio. The Tar Heels are second in assists, rebounding margin and turnover margin.
Five Tar Heels are averaging double-figure scoring, with a sixth at 9.8 points per game. Petra Holešínská leads the team at 13.2 points per game.
