Tar Heels Welcome Campbell for Home Opener

CHAPEL HILL – Following a historic weekend at Florida State's JoAnne Graf Classic, North Carolina kicks off its home slate with Campbell Wednesday at 5 p.m. before hosting the Big/Ten ACC Challenge Friday through Sunday.

In conjunction with Carolina's men's lacrosse team, the Tar Heels are collecting items at Anderson Stadium for the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill.

About Campbell (1-4)
Coming off a 4-3 win against Coastal Carolina, Campbell travels to UNC Wednesday before hosting the Campbell Invitational. Despite dropping the first four games of 2020, the Camels wrapped up the weekend with a win, led by Claudia Ware who went 2-for-3 in the game.
Series (streak): North Carolina leads, 62-14 (won four)
Last meeting: North Carolina won, 7-2 on April 17, 2019 in Buies Creek, N.C.

Wrapping up opening weekend with a 3-2 record, Carolina earned its 1,500th program win with the 11-3 victory over Detroit Mercy on Sunday. The Tar Heels dropped the first two games of the weekend to No. 2 Alabama and No. 9 Florida State, but managed to bounce back and win the final three games.
» Carolina's five doubles vs. Detroit Mercy on Saturday is more than the Tar Heels had in a single game in the past four seasons.
» Freshman Alyssa Stanley threw the Tar Heels' first complete game shutout of the season with UNC's 8-0 win vs. Detroit Mercy on Saturday. She tossed three strikeouts, giving up only two hits.
» Freshman Destiny Middleton stole four bases, including home, in the weekend finale – one shy of the single-game program record (5).
» Junior Zoë Goodman pinch-hit a double for the second time in as many games with for a two-run walkoff vs. Alabama and two-run double vs. Detroit Mercy on Sunday.
» Sophomore Hannah George went 2-1 in the circle, tossing 11 strikeouts in 10.2 innings. Offensively, Junior Megan Dray hit .500 with two doubles and drove in a team-best six runs.

Down Goes Bama
Although No. 2 Alabama scored first in Saturday evening's rematch, Carolina fought through a back-and-forth game with the second-ranked Crimson Tide. Coming from behind, down by four heading to the bottom of the seven, Zoë Goodman pinch hit a bases-clearing double for the 9-8 win, marking the highest ranked win and first win over Alabama in program history. Brittany Pickett struck out six in 6.1 innings before Hannah George picked up the win, dealing the final two outs.
» Brittany Pickett's home run was the first for the Tar Heels in 2020 and her first since April 27, 2019.
» Carolina defeated No. 2 Alabama for the first time in program history, also marking the highest ranked win in program history.
» Destiny Middleton, Megan Dray and Brittany Pickett each had multi-hit games vs. Alabama.
Senior Campbell Hutcherson sits top-10 in three career categories: fielding percentage, putouts and double plays turned. Junior Megan Dray ranks 10th in Carolina's career records with 15 runners caught stealing.
