Tar Heels Top ACC Preseason Poll, Land Four On Preseason All-ACC Team

CHAPEL HILL – Four-time defending ACC Tournament champion North Carolina has been picked as the 2020 ACC women's lacrosse preseason favorite in a vote by the conference's head coaches, the league announced Tuesday.
The Tar Heels received 62 points in voting from the ACC coaches, and Syracuse was second with 52. Notre Dame was third in the poll, followed by No. 4 Boston College, No. 5 Virginia, No. 6 Virginia Tech, No. 7 Duke and No. 8 Louisville.
UNC also tied Syracuse for the most selections to the Preseason All-ACC Team. Four Carolina players grabbed spots on the 17-member team: senior attacker Katie Hoeg, redshirt junior goalkeeper Taylor Moreno, junior attacker Jamie Ortega and junior defender Emma Trenchard. All four players are also on Inside Lacrosse's 2020 preseason first-team All-America team.
Ranked No. 1 in the Nike/US Lacrosse and the Inside Lacrosse Media polls, the Tar Heels open the season against James Madison at 1 p.m. Saturday in Harrisonburg, Va. UNC hosts Davidson in its home opener on Feb. 16.
