February 4, 2020 | Women's Tennis
GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina swept the ACC women's tennis weekly awards on Tuesday. Senior Alexa Graham earned player of the week honors, while Elizabeth Scotty was named freshman of the week for the first time.
Graham, from Garden City, N.Y., grabs her first player of the week honor this season after being selected on five occasions as a junior. Graham improved to 5-0 in dual matches and 17-4 overall for the season with a pair of singles wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
Graham defeated No. 85 Andrea Cerdan of Michigan and No. 22 Georgia Drummy of Vanderbilt on back-to-back days this past weekend. She trailed by large margins in both sets against Cerdan and overcame a 3-1 deficit in the opening set against Drummy, yet didn't drop a set in either match.
In doubles, Graham and Sara Daavettila clinched the opening point against Michigan on court one.
Scotty, who recently joined the team for the spring semester, improved to 4-0 in her young career with two straight-set wins over Michigan's Alyvia Jones and Vandy's Emma Kurtz.
Hailing from Annapolis, Md., Scotty teamed up with sophomore Cameron Morra to earn 6-1 and 6-0, doubles wins last weekend over the Wolverines and Commodores, respectively.
No. 2 North Carolina heads to Chicago later this week for the 2020 ITA National Team Indoor Championship that is scheduled for Feb. 7-10 at XS Tennis Village. The Tar Heels have won the indoor national championship three times and have reached the title match each of the last five years.
