Seven Heels Ranked Nationally
February 5, 2020 | Women's Tennis
North Carolina leads all NCAA Division I women's tennis programs with six singles players included in the initial top 125 rankings release of 2020. The Tar Heels also boast four doubles combinations among the top 60, according to the ITA.
The Tar Heels continue to pace the competition with three singles players listed in the top 10. Senior Sara Daavettila remain fourth in the rankings, followed by classmate Alexa Graham, who moves up one slot to No. 7. Sophomore Camera Morra checks in ninth.
Junior Alle Sanford climbs to No. 23 in the rankings, her best showing since the start of the 2018-19 campaign.
Freshman Kacie Harvey grabs her first career national ranking at No. 58. Her victory over then No. 16 Lisa Marie Rioux of Oklahoma State last month in Las Vegas helped the Braintree, Mass., native land in the rankings along with her 9-2 overall slate.
Senior Makenna Jones returns to the rankings at No. 101. She is off to a perfect 4-0 start to the dual match season.
Carolina's six ranked players are one better than the University of Georgia's five, while a group that includes Duke, Pepperdine, Texas, UCLA and Virginia all have four listed this week in the rankings.
In doubles, Jones and Morra sit at No. 4, yet haven't competed together since the ITA Fall National Championships back in November.
Daavettila and Graham remained at No. 6, while Jones and Sanford leap into the rankings at No. 29, and Sanford and freshman Anika Yarlagadda round of the group at No. 41.
