March 31, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL – Five North Carolina women's lacrosse players have earned spots on the 2020 Inside Lacrosse All-America teams, the magazine announced on Tuesday.
Senior Katie Hoeg and juniors Jamie Ortega and Emma Trenchard were named to the first team, giving the Tar Heels the most first-team selections of any school. Securing honorable-mention honors were junior Scottie Rose Growney at attack and redshirt junior Taylor Moreno at goalie.

Their inclusion on the first team makes them the 13th, 14th and 15th players in program history to earn first-team All-America honors more than once. It also brings the total number of Tar Heels earning first-team All-America selections to 29, on 47 occasions.
Carolina has had at least one first-team All-America selection in each of the last 16 seasons.

She tied for first nationally in points (52) and points per game (7.43), tallying eight in five of the Tar Heels' seven games. She also ranked second nationally in assists (30) and assists per game (4.29).
Already Carolina's career assist leader entering 2020, Hoeg became the school's all-time leading scorer on March 9 at Northwestern. With four goals and four assists against the Wildcats, she boosted her career point total to 261, breaking Corey Donohoe's record of 256, set from 2008-11.
An attacker from Centereach, N.Y., Ortega proved once again to be one of the country's top offensive threats. She tied for sixth in the nation with 32 goals, ranked third with 4.57 goals per game, tied for sixth with 45 points and tied for fourth with 6.43 points per game. She also ranked first nationally in shot percentage (.762), scoring her 32 goals on just 42 shots.
Over the course of the season, Ortega moved up from eighth to tied for fourth with Marie McCool (2015-18) on UNC's career goals list with 183. Ortega also moved up from 12th to fifth on the school's career points list with 243.
Trenchard, the 2019 ACC Defender of the Year and a member of the U.S. national team, maintained her status as one the nation's best defenders. The Windsor, Conn., native collected eight ground balls while tying for the team lead with five caused turnovers and winning 26 draw controls. On March 3, she was named the IWLCA Division I and ACC Defensive Player of the Week after recording a career-high 11 draw controls, two ground balls and a caused a turnover in the win at Virginia.
After scoring 10 goals in three NCAA Tournament games in 2019, Growney, from Berwyn, Pa., continued her emergence as an offensive force. Her 22 goals, five assists and 27 points were all career highs. Her 31 draw controls were also a career high and led the team. On Feb. 25, she was tabbed the IWLCA Division I and ACC Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a career-high six goals in the win over Maryland. Her six goals were the most scored by a Tar Heel against the Terrapins since Erin McGinnis (1996-99) had six on April 24, 1999.
Moreno, from Huntington, N.Y., was one of the nation's top goalies for a third straight season. She ranked seventh nationally in goals-against average (8.03), while posting 6.14 saves per game and a .473 save percentage. On Feb. 11, she was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week after making 12 saves and allowing just three goals in the season-opening win at James Madison.
ILWomen contributors and members of lacrosse media chose the 2020 season's top 12 attackers, nine midfielders, 12 defenders, top three draw specialists and top three goalies.
