Tar Heels Fall To Cardinals, 195.850-195.375

MUNCIE, Ind. – The North Carolina women's gymnastics team fell to the Ball State Cardinals, 195.850 to 195.375 on Sunday afternoon in Worthen Arena in Muncie, Indiana. Though the Tar Heels came up short in the team score, UNC earned at least a share of four individual event titles.
Carolina kicked off competition on bars, totaling 48.675 in the rotation. Freshmen Elizabeth Culton and Sophie Silverstein led the team with scores of 9.800 to finish in a three-way tie for first place with Ball State's Marissa Nychyk. Hannah Nam scored 9.725, Grace Donaghy 9.700 and Emery Summer 9.650 to round out the opening rotation score.
The Tar Heels made up some ground on the Cardinals in the second rotation with their best event score of the day, 49.050 on vault. Senior Khazia Hislop topped the podium with a score of 9.925 while Mikayla Robinson tied two Ball State gymnasts for fourth (9.800). Alexis Allen, Emery Summey and Drew Aldridge each contributed 9.775 to the team total. Culton added 9.675 towards her all around score.
With their floor routines, North Carolina narrowed Ball State's lead to just .075 points after a 48.900-point rotation. Culton and Hislop earned a spot in a three-way tie for third place with scores of 9.825. Mikayla Robinson earned 9.775 points for her performance, Lily Dean scored 9.750 and Jamie Antinori finished her routine with a 9.725 from the judges.
The Tar Heels wrapped up the day on beam (48.750) and Khazia Hislop earned another individual title (9.825) to lead the team through the final event. Culton found herself in another tie for a spot on the podium, scoring 9.800 to finish in a four-way tie for second. Alexis Allen scored 9.775, Hannah Nam earned 9.725 points and Grace Donaghy put up 9.625 points for UNC.
Elizabeth Culton won the all around competition with a score of 39.100, besting Ball State's Marissa Nychyk who scored 38.925 across the four skills.

The Tar Heels will wrap up the regular season on Sunday, March 15 at 7 p.m. at the University of Maryland's Five Meet. Carolina will face hosting school Maryland as well as three EAGL opponents – NC State, New Hampshire and George Washington.
The Maryland meet will mark the first time the Heels face the Terrapins this season. Carolina is 2-1 against New Hampshire in regular season matchups, 1-2 against NC State and 1-0 over George Washington.
Following the final meet of regular season competition, North Carolina will play host for the 2020 EAGL Championships on Saturday, March 21 in Carmichael Arena at 1:45 p.m. in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
