Tar Heels Unveil Roster For 2020-21
May 1, 2020 | Women's Basketball
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – A mix of veterans and new faces will make up the 2020-21 UNC women's basketball roster.
In head coach Courtney Banghart's second season in Chapel Hill, she'll welcome five freshmen and a graduate transfer to Carmichael Arena. The five freshmen are Deja Kelly, Anya Poole, Kennedy Todd-Williams, Alyssa Ustby and Ali Zelaya, with Petra Holešínská coming from University of Illinois with one year of eligibility.
Another new face on the court isn't new to Chapel Hill. Ariel Young transferred to UNC from Michigan in the middle of last year and has practiced with the team since January. She'll take the court for the Tar Heels in 2020-21.
Anchoring the team are three veterans: seniors Janelle Bailey and Leah Church, and redshirt junior Jaelynn Murray, who will be in her fourth year on the squad but sat out last year with a knee injury so has two years of eligibility remaining.
After wearing jersey No. 30 last season in honor of Murray, Bailey will switch back to No. 44 this year while Murray again takes the court in No. 30.
Sophomores Malu Tshitenge and Kennady Tucker return after each playing in all 30 games last season as freshmen. Tshitenge earned a spot on the All-ACC Freshman Team and led the ACC in offensive rebounding.
The coaching staff will also have a new look in 2020-21. On Wednesday, Tar Heel assistant coach Tim Taylor was announced as the new head coach at Navy.
