Second Straight Year Among Top Six
Matt Clark, assistant men's golf coach at the University of North Carolina, is a finalist for the second year in a row for the Jan Strickland Outstanding Assistant Coach Award. The award is selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America and presented by TaylorMade Golf Company.

The Strickland Award is presented to the assistant coach that has excelled in working with their student-athletes both on the course and in the classroom.

Clark is joined on the list of finalists by Bill Alcorn of Oklahoma, Jean-Paul Hebert of Texas, Bob Heintz of Duke, David McMinn of Columbus State and Aaron O'Callaghan of Wake Forest .

Andrew DiBitetto, Carolina's head men's golf coach, won the Strickland Award in 2016 in his penultimate season as an assistant coach with the Tar Heels.

"The Strickland Award is prestigious and it's a great honor for Coach Clark to be named a finalist for the second consecutive year," says DiBitetto. "Our players and I are excited for him to be appropriately recognized by his coaching peers, but we are even more excited that he's part of our UNC family and we get to interact with him on a daily basis. 'Clarkie' is an excellent coach, but an even better person. He brings passion, enthusiasm, wisdom and joy to our program each day."

The 2019-20 season was Clark's third working with DiBitetto and the UNC program. The Tar Heels finished the year ranked in the top 20 in Golfweek, Golfstat and the Golf Coaches Association polls, won their fifth tournament in the last three years and produced two All-Americas in sophomore Ryan Burnett and junior Ryan Gerard. Those two players rank one-two, respectively, in career stroke average in Carolina golf history.

UNC continues to excel in the classroom under DiBitetto's and Clark's leadership. The men's golf team posted a perfect 1000 in the NCAA's Academic Progress Rates in each of Clark's first two seasons and have placed six, five and seven players on the ACC Academic Honor Roll in his three years on staff.
