Brown, Newsome On Biletnikoff Award Watch List
July 16, 2020 | Football
TALLAHASSEE, Florida - Carolina's dynamic receiving duo of Dyami Brown and Dazz Newsome are named on the 2020 Biletnikoff Award Preseason Watch List, announced Thursday by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc., the Florida-based creator and sponsor of the prestigious Biletnikoff Award.
Brown, a junior from Charlotte, North Carolina, is coming off a 2019 season where he was named third team All-ACC after coming up with 1,034 receiving yards and tied a UNC school record with 12 receiving touchdowns. He ranked ninth nationally among WRs and led the ACC with a 20.3 yards per catch average.
A senior from Hampton, Virginia, Newsome earned second team All-ACC honors in 2019 with 1,018 receiving yards and 10 receiving TDs. He led the Tar Heels with 72 receptions and 84.8 receiving yards per game.
Brown and Newsome became the only set of teammates in Carolina football history to have 1,000 receiving yards in the 2019 season. The 2,052 combined receiving yards were also a new program standard. The previous mark of 1,939 yards was held by 2016 teammates Ryan Switzer (1,112) and Bug Howard (827).
Â
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes the college football season's outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back, and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
Â
The semifinalists, finalists, and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers.
