CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – They're here!
The UNC women's basketball program's five freshmen – Deja Kelly, Anya Poole, Alyssa Ustby, Kennedy Todd-Williams and Alexandra Zelaya – arrived on campus and moved into their dorm rooms this week. They'll focus on summer school classes and work out on their own until team workouts begin later this month.
"I'm speechless with how wonderful it was to see the team today," coach Courtney Banghart said Monday afternoon. "We've waited so long for this day and feeling the energy of this new group is hard to describe."
The class includes two in-state players: Poole, a 6-2 forward from Raleigh (Southeast Raleigh HS) and Todd-Williams, a 5-11 guard from Jacksonville (Jacksonville HS). Kelly, a 5-8 guard is from San Antonio, Texas. Ustby, a 6-1 guard, is from Rochester, Minn. Zelaya, a 6-4 forward, is from Goodyear, Ariz.
As a group, Banghart's first recruiting class was ranked 10th nationally by espnW.
Individually, Kelly was ranked 10th overall in the incoming class and fourth among guards, according to espnW's Hoopgurlz rankings. Poole, ranked 49th overall, joins Kelly as a five-star recruit. Zelaya was a four-star recruit, and Todd-Williams and Ustby were both three-stars.
In addition to the five freshmen, UNC will welcome two graduate transfers – Petra Holešínská and Stephanie Watts – to the 2020-21 roster.
