Adrian Walters Q and A with Matt Krause
August 6, 2020 | Women's Basketball
Assistant coach Adrian Walters joined the Tar Heel women's basketball program in June and has spent the past two months settling into his new life in Chapel Hill. Recently, he spoke with Voice of the Tar Heels Matt Krause via Zoom. The two chatted about Walters' background, his love for basketball, and what drew him to Chapel Hill after two decades in the coaching business.
"Seriously, it IS Carolina," Walter said. "Who wouldn't want to wear this blue?"
Watch the entire conversation here:
A few outtakes from Walters:
Why he enjoys working with the Tar Heels players: "They're such sponges. They want to learn. They're like 'more, more, more.' I love coaching those kids."
What he's learned so far about Carolina's style of play: "What I've learned is that we like to play fast, which I love. Courtney has really instilled in all of us to push, push, push, move the ball. I really like that."
On the hiring process: "What I now know is they talked to a lot of people around me while I was sitting there waiting for the next call. That was exciting to find out that other people had nice things to say about me and [the hiring] wasn't just on an interview with me."
His hobbies, or lack thereof: "I don't have any real hobbies other than basketball. Carrie Moore and I were talking and she asked me a similar question, and I said, 'You know what really gets me is to sit down and watch film and figure out what the heck that other team is doing.' I like to do that."
Also: "I am so happy to be here. I really am."
The Tar Heels are happy, too.
