Fountain Shoots 68 Again, in 2nd Place After 36 Holes

Tar Heels Remain 5th with 18 Holes to Play
University of North Carolina freshman Peter Fountain shot a 4-under 68 Monday for the second time in as many days and senior Ryan Gerard fired a 2-under 70 to also move into the top 10 after 36 holes at the Camp Creek Seminole Invitational.
Fountain is alone in second place at 8 under par, six strokes behind Clemson's Jacob Bridgeman, who followed his opening-round 64 with a 66 today to take the lead at 14 under.
Fountain is four shots ahead of four players – two from tournament leader Wake Forest and two from host Florida State – at 4 under par. The Raleigh native made five birdies and only one bogey in the second round. He shot a 3-under 33 on the front side after making birdies on the seventh, eighth and ninth holes.
Gerard is tied for ninth at 2 under after making two birdies and a bogey on both the front and back nines.
Carolina shot even par (288) for the second round in a row. The Tar Heels are fifth in the 10-team field. Wake Forest took the lead after an 8-under-280 today. The Deacons are 14 under, two shots ahead of the Seminoles, who had the best team round of the day with a 9-under 279, and Clemson, which led after day one.
Duke is fourth at 7 under and UNC fifth at even par. The Tar Heels are seven shots ahead of Georgia Tech.
Austin Greaser is tied for 28th after a 73, Austin Hitt is tied for 46th after a 77 and Ryan Smith is tied for 50th after a 78.
Dougie Ergood, an individual entry, is tied for 24th after a second-round 75.
The third and final round at the Camp Creek Golf Club is Tuesday. This is Carolina's first tournament of the season, its first since March 2020.
