
ACC Announces 2021 Football Schedule

CHAPEL HILL – Carolina football will host seven home games and play five road games as the Atlantic Coast Conference announces the schedule for 2021.
The Tar Heels open on the road at league rival Virginia Tech on either Thursday, Sept. 2 or Friday, Sept. 3. A confirmed date will be announced by the conference at a later time.
Carolina's first home game of the season comes on Saturday, Sept. 11, when it hosts Georgia State out of the Sun Belt Conference. The game with the Panthers begins a stretch of five of six games played at home.
UNC is slated to host Virginia on Saturday, Sept 18, before heading back on the road at Georgia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 25.
The Heels will then setup shop inside the Kenan Football Center for nearly the entire month of October. Carolina will play three-consecutive home conference games for the first time since 2005 by welcoming Duke on Saturday, Oct. 2, Florida State on Saturday, Oct. 9 and Miami on Saturday, Oct. 16 to Chapel Hill.
After an open date, UNC visits Notre Dame on Saturday, Oct. 30.
November alternates between home and away games to wrap up the regular season. Carolina hosts a non-conference game against Wake Forest on Saturday, Nov. 6 and closes out the home schedule with Wofford on Saturday, Nov. 20.
The final two ACC games are on the road at Pitt on Thursday, Nov. 11 and at NC State the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, Nov. 26.

Schedule Notes
Virginia Tech: Carolina opens a season against the Hokies for the first time since 1946, a game played in Chapel Hill that ended 14-14.
Georgia State: First ever meeting between the two schools in football. The Tar Heels are scheduled to visit the Panthers in 2022.
Georgia Tech: The two Coastal Division rivals did not play in 2020 after the schedule was revamped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The two squads met ever season between 1980-2019.
Florida State: The Seminoles make their first visit to Chapel Hill since 2009. The three most recent meetings in 2010, 2016 and 2020 all were played in Tallahassee, Florida.
Notre Dame: The Tar Heels and Fighting Irish are in the midst of playing head-to-head over the span of three-successive seasons. UNC hosted Notre Dame in 2020 and will do that once again in 2022.
Wake Forest: The 2021 matchup is the culmination of a home-and-home non-conference series between the two in-state ACC rivals. Carolina played in Winston-Salem in 2019. This season will also mark the first time the two have played in three-straight seasons since 2002-04.
Pitt: Similar to Georgia Tech, the Coastal Division foes did not play last season, the first time since the Panthers joined the ACC for the 2013 campaign.

NC State: The Carolina-State game returns to the final weekend of the regular season, a place it held in the schedule between 2014-2019. Since the return of Mack Brown to Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels have won both games over the Wolfpack by a combined score of 89-31.
