Five Tar Heels Set For ITA Fall Nationals
November 3, 2021 | Women's Tennis
SAN DIEGO - The fall portion of North Carolina's women's tennis season will reach its apex this weekend as many of the nation's elite singles and doubles competitors take part in the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships.
The Tar Heels are sending five players to the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego for four days of competition from Thursday, November 4 through Sunday, November 7.
Senior Cameron Morra and sophomores Fiona Crawley and Reilly Tran will battle out in the singles field, while the doubles competitors include Morra and freshman Carson Tanguilig and the duo of Crawley and junior Elizabeth Scotty, who won the 2021 NCAA Doubles National Championship with Makenna Jones back in May.
Singles and doubles are each draws of 32, with the largest portion of automatic qualifiers in all draws coming from the 2021 ITA Division I Regional Championships.
Tran qualified by winning the Milwaukee Tennis Classic earlier this fall, while the other four advanced to the fall championships by virtue of winning regional titles in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Now in its fifth year, the ITA National Fall Championships replaced the National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in 2017. Combined, the men's portion of the fall national championship event dates back to 1978. For the women, their history goes back to 1984.
Carolina women's tennis boasts three singles champions, Jamie Loeb (2013) and back-to-back winners Sara Daavetilla (2019) and Alexa Graham (2020). Meanwhile, the only doubles team to win the title was Hayley Carter and Whitney Kay in 2016.
