Tar Heels Trip Vikings In Exhibition, 83-55

CHAPEL HILL—Big men Dawson Garcia, Armando Bacot and Brady Manek combined for 51 points as North Carolina pulled away from Elizabeth City State and beat the Vikings, 83-55, in an exhibition game on Friday night in the Smith Center.
Garcia, a transfer from Marquette, finished with 17 points and five rebounds, while Bacot added 16 and eight, respectively. Manek chipped in 16 points and five boards. Both Garcia and Manek hit a pair of three-pointers.
After leading by just 11 points at 43-32 at halftime, Carolina opened the second half on a 23-8 run to blow the game open.
Sophomore guards RJ Davis and Caleb Love, named on Friday as team co-captains along with Bacot, both scored in double figures. Davis scored 12 on 5 of 8 shooting while adding five assists. Love shot 2 of 7 from the floor but finished with 10 points and five assists.
The Tar Heels will open the 2021-22 regular season in Hubert Davis' first official game as head coach on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Loyola (Md.).
